Mission Statement
The NINDS Common Data Elements (CDEs) project was undertaken to facilitate the development of neurology data standards. The goal of the CDEs is to provide investigators and study staff with a “universal language” to utilize within studies. The primary goal of the NINDS in developing CDEs for clinical research in neurology is to reduce the effort required to train coordinators and create the data collection forms in future studies.
The CDEs enhance the field of neurological research, as data can eventually be reviewed across multiple studies. The CDEs were designed to be platform independent within a comprehensive framework including data dictionary and manual of procedures, and have been coupled with a set of common forms. The CDE materials are freely available on the NINDS CDE website.
This project has been funded in whole or in part with Federal funds from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, National Institutes of Health under Contract No. N01-NS-7-2372.
